Q.S An-Naba (اَلنَّبَأ) - 40 Number of Verses

(The Tidings)

1

عَمَّ يَتَسَاۤءَلُوْنَۚ

‘amma yatasā'alūn(a).

About what do they question each other?



2

عَنِ النَّبَاِ الْعَظِيْمِۙ

‘anin naba'il-‘aẓīm(i).

About the great news they dispute.



3

الَّذِيْ هُمْ فِيْهِ مُخْتَلِفُوْنَۗ

allażī hum fīhi mukhtalifūn(a).

In which they differ greatly.



4

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُوْنَۙ

kallā saya‘lamūn(a).

No, soon they will understand.



5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُوْنَ

Ṡumma kallā saya‘lamūn(a).

Again, they will surely comprehend.



6

اَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْاَرْضَ مِهٰدًاۙ

alam naj‘alil-arḍa mihādā(n).

Did We not make earth a spread?



7

وَّالْجِبَالَ اَوْتَادًاۖ

wal-jibāla autādā(n).

And mountains as firm pegs?



8

وَّخَلَقْنٰكُمْ اَزْوَاجًاۙ

wa khalaqnākum azwājā(n).

And create you in pairs?



9

وَّجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًاۙ

wa ja‘alnā naumakum subātā(n).

Make your sleep for restful peace?



10

وَّجَعَلْنَا الَّيْلَ لِبَاسًاۙ

wa ja‘alnal-laila libāsā(n).

Make night a covering darkness?



11

وَّجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًاۚ

wa ja‘alnan-nahāra ma‘āsyā(n).

Make day for seeking livelihood?



12

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًاۙ

wa banainā fauqakum sab‘an syidādā(n).

Build above you seven strong layers?



13

وَّجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَّهَّاجًاۖ

wa ja‘alnā sirājaw wahhājā(n).

Place a shining lamp for light?



14

وَّاَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرٰتِ مَاۤءً ثَجَّاجًاۙ

wa anzalnā minal-mu‘ṣirāti mā'an ṡajjājā(n).

Send down abundant rain from clouds?



15

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهٖ حَبًّا وَّنَبَاتًاۙ

linukhrija bihī ḥabbaw wa nabātā(n).

To grow grains and plants with it,



16

وَّجَنّٰتٍ اَلْفَافًاۗ

wa jannātin alfāfā(n).

and lush, shaded gardens.



17

اِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيْقَاتًاۙ

inna yaumal-faṣli kāna mīqātā(n).

Indeed, the Day of Decision is fixed,



18

يَّوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِى الصُّوْرِ فَتَأْتُوْنَ اَفْوَاجًاۙ

yauma yunfakhu fiṣ-ṣūri fa ta'tūna afwājā(n).

when the trumpet is blown, you come in crowds,



19

وَّفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتْ اَبْوَابًاۙ

wa futiḥatis-samā'u fa kānat abwābā(n).

and the sky opens with many gates,



20

وَّسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًاۗ

wa suyyiratil-jibālu fa kānat sarābā(n).

and mountains move, becoming a mirage.



21

اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًاۙ

inna jahannama kānat mirṣādā(n).

Indeed, Hell lies in wait,



22

لِّلطّٰغِيْنَ مَاٰبًاۙ

liṭ-ṭāgīna ma'ābā(n).

a destination for the transgressors.



23

لّٰبِثِيْنَ فِيْهَآ اَحْقَابًاۚ

lābiṡīna fīhā aḥqābā(n).

They will remain there for ages,



24

لَا يَذُوْقُوْنَ فِيْهَا بَرْدًا وَّلَا شَرَابًاۙ

lā yażūqūna fīhā bardaw wa lā syarābā(n).

tasting no coolness nor drink,



25

اِلَّا حَمِيْمًا وَّغَسَّاقًاۙ

illā ḥamīmaw wa gassāqā(n).

except boiling water and foul pus,



26

جَزَاۤءً وِّفَاقًاۗ

jazā'aw wifāqā(n).

a fitting recompense.



27

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا لَا يَرْجُوْنَ حِسَابًاۙ

innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisābā(n).

They did not expect any reckoning,



28

وَّكَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا كِذَّابًاۗ

wa każżabū bi'āyātinā kiżżābā(n).

and denied Our signs outright.



29

وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ اَحْصَيْنٰهُ كِتٰبًاۙ

wa kulla syai'in aḥṣaināhu kitābā(n).

Everything We recorded in a Book.



30

فَذُوْقُوْا فَلَنْ نَّزِيْدَكُمْ اِلَّا عَذَابًا ࣖ

fa żūqū falan nazīdakum illā ‘ażābā(n)

So taste, We will increase only your torment.



31

اِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِيْنَ مَفَازًاۙ

inna lil-muttaqīna mafāzā(n).

Indeed, the righteous will attain victory,



32

حَدَاۤىِٕقَ وَاَعْنَابًاۙ

Ḥadā'iqa wa a‘nābā(n).

gardens and vineyards,



33

وَّكَوَاعِبَ اَتْرَابًاۙ

wa kawā‘iba atrābā(n).

and youthful maidens of equal age,



34

وَّكَأْسًا دِهَاقًاۗ

wa ka'san dihāqā(n).

and cups filled with drink.



35

لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ فِيْهَا لَغْوًا وَّلَا كِذّٰبًا

lā yasma‘ūna fīhā lagwaw wa lā kiżżābā(n).

They hear no vain talk or lies there.



36

جَزَاۤءً مِّنْ رَّبِّكَ عَطَاۤءً حِسَابًاۙ

jazā'am mir rabbika ‘aṭā'an ḥisābā(n).

A reward and generous gift from your Lord,



37

رَّبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُوْنَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًاۚ

rabbis-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā bainahumar-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭābā(n).

Lord of heavens, earth, and all between, Most Merciful, none can speak to Him.



38

يَوْمَ يَقُوْمُ الرُّوْحُ وَالْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةُ صَفًّاۙ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُوْنَ اِلَّا مَنْ اَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

yauma yaqūmur-rūḥu wal-malā'ikatu ṣaffā(n), lā yatakallamūna illā man ażina lahur-raḥmānu wa qāla ṣawābā(n).

On the day spirits and angels stand in rows, none speak except those permitted by the Most Merciful, speaking truth.



39

ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّۚ فَمَنْ شَاۤءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰى رَبِّهٖ مَاٰبًا

Żālikal-yaumul-ḥaqq(u), faman syā'attakhaża ilā rabbihī ma'ābā(n).

That is the inevitable Day; whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.



40

اِنَّآ اَنْذَرْنٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيْبًا ەۙ يَّوْمَ يَنْظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُوْلُ الْكٰفِرُ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ كُنْتُ تُرٰبًا ࣖ

innā anżarnākum ‘ażāban qarībā(n), yauma yanẓurul-mar'u mā qaddamat yadāhu wa yaqūlul-kāfiru yā laitanī kuntu turābā(n).

We warned you of nearing punishment, when man sees what his hands have done, and the disbeliever says, If only I were dust.
