Q.S Al-Waqi'ah (اَلْوَاقِعَة) - 96 Number of Verses

اِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُۙ

iżā waqa‘atil-wāqi‘ah(tu).

When the inevitable Day of Judgment comes

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ۘ

laisa liwaq‘atihā kāżibah(tun).

its occurrence cannot be denied

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ

khāfiḍatur rāfi‘ah(tun).

it will humble some and exalt others

اِذَا رُجَّتِ الْاَرْضُ رَجًّاۙ

iżā rujjatil-arḍu rajjā(n).

When the earth is shaken violently

وَّبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّاۙ

wa bussatil-jibālu bassā(n).

and mountains are crushed to dust

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاۤءً مُّنْۢبَثًّاۙ

fa kānat habā'am mumbaṡṡā(n).

scattering as fine particles

وَّكُنْتُمْ اَزْوَاجًا ثَلٰثَةً ۗ

wa kuntum azwājan ṡalāṡah(tan).

you will be divided into three groups

فَاَصْحٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ۗ

fa aṣḥābul-maimanah(ti), mā aṣḥābul-maimanah(ti).

the people of the right, how blessed are they

وَاَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ۗ

wa aṣḥābul-masy'amah(ti), mā aṣḥābul-masy'amah(ti).

the people of the left, how wretched are they

وَالسّٰبِقُوْنَ السّٰبِقُوْنَۙ

was-sābiqūnas-sābiqūn(a).

and the foremost, they are the foremost

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَۚ

ulā'ikal-muqarrabūn(a).

They are those brought near to God

فِيْ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِيْمِ

fī jannātin-na‘īm(i).

dwelling in gardens of bliss

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَۙ

Ṡullatum minal-awwalīn(a).

many from the earlier generations

وَقَلِيْلٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَۗ

wa qalīlum minal-ākhirīn(a).

and a few from later ones

عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُوْنَةٍۙ

‘alā sururim mauḍūnah(tin).

They recline on jeweled golden couches

مُّتَّكِـِٕيْنَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقٰبِلِيْنَ

muttaki'īna ‘alaihā mutaqābilīn(a).

facing one another

يَطُوْفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُوْنَۙ

yaṭūfu ‘alaihim wildānum mukhalladūn(a).

served by ever-youthful attendants

بِاَكْوَابٍ وَّاَبَارِيْقَۙ وَكَأْسٍ مِّنْ مَّعِيْنٍۙ

bi'akwābiw wa abārīq(a), wa ka'sim mim ma‘īn(in).

with goblets, pitchers, and cups of flowing water

لَّا يُصَدَّعُوْنَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُوْنَۙ

lā yuṣadda‘ūna ‘anhā wa lā yunzifūn(a).

causing neither headache nor intoxication

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُوْنَۙ

wa fākihatim mimmā yatakhayyarūn(a).

and fruits of their choosing

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُوْنَۗ

wa laḥmi ṭairim mimmā yasytahūn(a).

and bird meat they desire

وَحُوْرٌ عِيْنٌۙ

wa ḥūrun ‘īn(un).

and fair maidens with lovely eyes

كَاَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُوْنِۚ

ka'amṡālil-lu'lu'il-maknūn(i).

like hidden pearls

جَزَاۤءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ

jazā'am bimā kānū ya‘malūn(a).

a reward for their deeds

لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ فِيْهَا لَغْوًا وَّلَا تَأْثِيْمًاۙ

lā yasma‘ūna fīhā lagwaw wa lā ta'ṡīmā(n).

They hear no idle talk there

اِلَّا قِيْلًا سَلٰمًا سَلٰمًا

illā qīlan salāman salāmā(n).

only words of peace

وَاَصْحٰبُ الْيَمِيْنِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْيَمِيْنِۗ

wa aṣḥābul-yamīn(i), mā aṣḥābul-yamīn(i).

The people of the right, who are they?

فِيْ سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُوْدٍۙ

fī sidrim makhḍūd(in).

They dwell among thornless lote trees

وَّطَلْحٍ مَّنْضُوْدٍۙ

wa ṭalḥim manḍūd(in).

and clustered banana trees

وَّظِلٍّ مَّمْدُوْدٍۙ

wa ẓillim mamdūd(in).

under vast spreading shade

وَّمَاۤءٍ مَّسْكُوْبٍۙ

wa mā'im maskūb(in).

by ever-flowing water

وَّفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيْرَةٍۙ

wa fākihatin kaṡīrah(tin).

and abundant fruits

لَّا مَقْطُوْعَةٍ وَّلَا مَمْنُوْعَةٍۙ

lā maqṭū‘atiw wa lā mamnū‘ah(tin).

never ceasing, always within reach

وَّفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوْعَةٍۗ

wa furusyim marfū‘ah(tin).

on soft, elevated beds

اِنَّآ اَنْشَأْنٰهُنَّ اِنْشَاۤءًۙ

innā ansya'nāhunna insyā'ā(n).

We created their maidens anew

فَجَعَلْنٰهُنَّ اَبْكَارًاۙ

faja‘alnāhunna abkārā(n).

making them pure virgins

عُرُبًا اَتْرَابًاۙ

‘uruban atrābā(n).

loving and of equal age

لِّاَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۗ

li'aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).

for the people of the right

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَۙ

Ṡullatum minal-awwalīn(a).

many from the earlier generations

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَۗ ࣖ

wa ṡullatum minal-ākhirīn(a).

and many from later ones

وَاَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِۗ

wa aṣḥābusy-syimāl(i), mā aṣḥābusy-syimāl(i).

The people of the left, how wretched are they

فِيْ سَمُوْمٍ وَّحَمِيْمٍۙ

fī samūmiw wa ḥamīm(in).

in scorching winds and boiling water

وَّظِلٍّ مِّنْ يَّحْمُوْمٍۙ

wa ẓillim miy yaḥmūm(in).

under shadows of black smoke

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَّلَا كَرِيْمٍ

lā bāridiw wa lā karīm(in).

neither cool nor comforting

اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِيْنَۚ

innahum kānū qabla żālika mutrafīn(a).

They once lived in luxury

وَكَانُوْا يُصِرُّوْنَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيْمِۚ

wa kānū yuṣirrūna ‘alal-ḥinṡil-‘aẓīm(i).

persisting in great sin

وَكَانُوْا يَقُوْلُوْنَ ەۙ اَىِٕذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَۙ

wa kānū yaqūlūn(a), a'iżā mitnā wa kunnā turābaw wa ‘iẓāman a'innā lamab‘ūṡūn(a).

They said, When we die and become dust and bones, will we be resurrected?

اَوَاٰبَاۤؤُنَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ

awa'ābā'unal-awwalūn(a).

And our ancient ancestors too?

قُلْ اِنَّ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَۙ

qul innal-awwalīna wal-ākhirīn(a).

Say, Yes, the first and the last

لَمَجْمُوْعُوْنَۙ اِلٰى مِيْقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ

lamajmū‘ūn(a), ilā mīqāti yaumim ma‘lūm(in).

will be gathered at an appointed time on a known Day

ثُمَّ اِنَّكُمْ اَيُّهَا الضَّاۤ لُّوْنَ الْمُكَذِّبُوْنَۙ

Ṡumma innakum ayyuhaḍ-ḍāllūnal-mukażżibūn(a).

Then you, O misguided deniers

لَاٰكِلُوْنَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِّنْ زَقُّوْمٍۙ

la'ākilūna min syajarim min zaqqūm(in).

will eat from the tree of Zaqqum

فَمَالِـُٔوْنَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُوْنَۚ

fa māli'ūna minhal-buṭūn(a).

filling your bellies with it

فَشٰرِبُوْنَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيْمِۚ

fasyāribūna ‘alaihi minal-ḥamīm(i).

and drink scalding water

فَشٰرِبُوْنَ شُرْبَ الْهِيْمِۗ

fa syāribūna syurbal-hīm(i).

drinking like parched camels

هٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّيْنِۗ

hāżā nuzuluhum yaumad-dīn(i).

This is their feast on the Day of Reckoning

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُوْنَ

naḥnu khalaqnākum falau lā tuṣaddiqūn(a).

We created you, why do you not believe?

اَفَرَءَيْتُمْ مَّا تُمْنُوْنَۗ

afa ra'aitum mā tumnūn(a).

Have you considered the seed you emit?

ءَاَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُوْنَهٗٓ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْخٰلِقُوْنَ

a'antum takhluqūnahū am naḥnul-khāliqūn(a).

Do you create it, or are We the Creator?

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوْقِيْنَۙ

naḥnu qaddarnā bainakumul-mauta wa mā naḥnu bimasbūqīn(a).

We decreed your death, and We are not powerless

عَلٰٓى اَنْ نُّبَدِّلَ اَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِيْ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ

‘alā an nubaddila amṡālakum wa nunsyi'akum fī mā lā ta‘lamūn(a).

to replace you with others like you and resurrect you in forms unknown to you

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْاَةَ الْاُوْلٰى فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ

wa laqad ‘alimtumun-nasy'atal-ūlā falau lā tażakkarūn(a).

You know the first creation, why do you not reflect?

اَفَرَءَيْتُمْ مَّا تَحْرُثُوْنَۗ

afara'aitum mā taḥruṡūn(a).

Have you considered the seeds you sow?

ءَاَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُوْنَهٗٓ اَمْ نَحْنُ الزّٰرِعُوْنَ

a'antum tazra‘ūnahū am naḥnuz-zāri‘ūn(a).

Do you make them grow, or do We?

لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلْنٰهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُوْنَۙ

lau nasyā'u laja‘alnāhu ḥuṭāman fa ẓaltum tafakkahūn(a).

If We willed, We could make them rubble, leaving you stunned

اِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُوْنَۙ

innā lamugramūn(a).

saying, We are ruined

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُوْمُوْنَ

bal naḥnu maḥrūmūn(a).

deprived of all gain

اَفَرَءَيْتُمُ الْمَاۤءَ الَّذِيْ تَشْرَبُوْنَۗ

afa ra'aitumul-mā'al-lażī tasyrabūn(a).

Have you considered the water you drink?

ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْزَلْتُمُوْهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُوْنَ

a'antum anzaltumūhu minal-muzni am naḥnul-munzilūn(a).

Do you bring it from the clouds, or do We?

لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ جَعَلْنٰهُ اُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُوْنَ

lau nasyā'u ja‘alnāhu ujājan falau lā tasykurūn(a).

If We willed, We could make it bitter, why are you not grateful?

اَفَرَءَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِيْ تُوْرُوْنَۗ

afa ra'aitumun-nāral-latī tūrūn(a).

Have you considered the fire you kindle?

ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِـُٔوْنَ

a'antum ansya'tum syajaratahā am naḥnul-munsyi'ūn(a).

Do you grow its wood, or do We?

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَّمَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِيْنَۚ

naḥnu ja‘alnāhā tażkirataw wa matā‘al lil-muqwīn(a).

We made it a reminder and a provision for travelers

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْمِ ࣖ

fa sabbiḥ bismi rabbikal-‘aẓīm(i).

So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great

۞ فَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِمَوٰقِعِ النُّجُوْمِ

falā uqsimu bimawāqi‘in-nujūm(i).

I swear by the positions of the stars

وَاِنَّهٗ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ عَظِيْمٌۙ

wa innahū laqasamul lau ta‘lamūna ‘aẓīm(un).

and that is a mighty oath, if you only knew

اِنَّهٗ لَقُرْاٰنٌ كَرِيْمٌۙ

innahū laqur'ānun karīm(un).

this is indeed a noble Quran

فِيْ كِتٰبٍ مَّكْنُوْنٍۙ

fī kitābim maknūn(in).

in a protected Book

لَّا يَمَسُّهٗٓ اِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَۗ

lā yamassuhū illal-muṭahharūn(a).

touched only by the purified

تَنْزِيْلٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ

tanzīlum mir rabbil-‘ālamīn(a).

revealed by the Lord of all worlds

اَفَبِهٰذَا الْحَدِيْثِ اَنْتُمْ مُّدْهِنُوْنَۙ

afa biḥāżal-ḥadīṡi antum mudhinūn(a).

Do you disregard this message?

وَتَجْعَلُوْنَ رِزْقَكُمْ اَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ

wa taj‘alūna rizqakum annakum tukażżibūn(a).

and make your provision from God a means to deny Him?

فَلَوْلَآ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُوْمَۙ

falau lā iżā balagatil-ḥulqūm(a).

Why, when the soul reaches the throat

وَاَنْتُمْ حِيْنَىِٕذٍ تَنْظُرُوْنَۙ

wa antum ḥīna'iżin tanẓurūn(a).

and you watch helplessly

وَنَحْنُ اَقْرَبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلٰكِنْ لَّا تُبْصِرُوْنَ

wa naḥnu aqrabu ilaihi minkum wa lākil lā tubṣirūn(a).

We are closer to him than you, though you cannot see

فَلَوْلَآ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِيْنِيْنَۙ

falau lā in kuntum gaira madīnīn(a).

why, if you are not subject to God

تَرْجِعُوْنَهَآ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ

tarji‘ūnahā in kuntum ṣādiqīn(a).

do you not restore the soul, if you are truthful?

فَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَۙ

fa ammā in kāna minal-muqarrabīn(a).

If he is among those brought near

فَرَوْحٌ وَّرَيْحَانٌ ەۙ وَّجَنَّتُ نَعِيْمٍ

fa rauḥuw wa raiḥān(un), wa jannatu na‘īm(in).

he will have rest, provision, and a garden of bliss

وَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۙ

wa ammā in kāna min aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).

If he is among the people of the right

فَسَلٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۗ

fa salāmul laka min aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).

Peace be to you from the people of the right

وَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ الضَّاۤلِّيْنَۙ

wa ammā in kāna minal-mukażżibīnaḍ-ḍāllīn(a).

But if he is among the deniers and misguided

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيْمٍۙ

fa nuzulum min ḥamīm(in).

he will face scalding water

وَّتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيْمٍ

wa taṣliyatu jaḥīm(in).

and burning in Hell

اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِيْنِۚ

inna hāżā lahuwal-ḥaqqul-yaqīn(i).

This is the absolute truth

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْمِ ࣖ

fa sabbiḥ bismi rabbikal-‘aẓīm(i).

So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great
