Murottal Audio

1

iqtaraba lin-nāsi ḥisābuhum wa hum fī gaflatim mu‘riḍūn(a).

Nearer to people is their reckoning, yet they heedlessly turn away.

2

mā ya'tīhim min żikrim mir rabbihim muḥdaṡin illastama‘ūhu wa hum yal‘abūn(a).

Whenever new verses come from their Lord, they listen while jesting.

3

lāhiyatan qulūbuhum, wa asarrun-najwal-lażīna ẓalamū, hal hāżā illā basyarum miṡlukum, afa ta'tūnas-siḥra wa antum tubṣirūn(a).

Their hearts are distracted; wrongdoers secretly say, 'Is this Muhammad not just a man like you? Will you accept magic knowingly?'

4

qāla rabbī ya‘lamul-qaula fis-samā'i wal-arḍ(i), wa huwas-samī‘ul-‘alīm(u).

He said, 'My Lord knows all words in heaven and earth; He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.'

5

bal qālū aḍgāṡu aḥlāmim baliftarāhu bal huwa syā‘ir(un), falya'tinā bi'āyatin kamā ursilal-awwalūn(a).

They say, 'Confused dreams, or his invention, or he’s a poet; let him bring a sign like past messengers.'

6

mā āmanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknāhā, afahum yu'minūn(a).

No city We destroyed before them believed despite signs; will they believe?

7

wa mā arsalnā qablaka illā rijālan nūḥī ilaihim fas'alū ahlaż-żikri in kuntum lā ta‘lamūn(a).

Before you, We sent only men with revelation; ask the knowledgeable if you don’t know.

8

We made them not bodies without food, nor were they immortal.

9

Ṡumma ṣadaqnāhumul-wa‘da fa anjaināhum wa man nasyā'u wa ahlaknal-musrifīn(a).

We fulfilled Our promise, saving them and those We willed, destroying transgressors.

10

laqad anzalnā ilaikum kitāban fīhi żikrukum, afalā ta‘qilūn(a).

We sent down a Book to you with your reminder; will you not understand?

11

wa kam qaṣamnā min qaryatin kānat ẓālimataw wa ansya'nā ba‘dahā qauman ākharīn(a).

How many unjust cities We destroyed, raising another people after them.

12

falammā aḥassū ba'sanā iżā hum minhā yarkuḍūn(a).

When they felt Our punishment, they fled from it.

13

lā tarkuḍū warji‘ū ilā mā utriftum fīhi wa masākinikum la‘allakum tus'alūn(a).

Flee not, return to your luxuries and homes, so you may be questioned.

14

qālū yā wailanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn(a).

They said, 'Woe to us, we were indeed wrongdoers.'

15

famā zālat tilka da‘wāhum ḥattā ja‘alnāhum ḥaṣīdan khāmidīn(a).

Their cries continued until We made them like harvested stalks, lifeless.

16

wa mā khalaqnas-samā'a wal-arḍa wa mā bainahumā lā‘ibīn(a).

We created not heaven, earth, and what’s between them in jest.

17

lau aradnā an nattakhiża lahwal lattakhażnāhum mil ladunnā, in kunnā fā‘ilīn(a).

Had We wanted amusement, We would’ve taken it from Ourselves, if We so willed.

18

bal naqżifu bil-ḥaqqi ‘alal-bāṭili fa yadmaguhū fa iżā huwa zāhiq(un), wa lakumul-wailu mimmā taṣifūn(a).

We hurl truth at falsehood, crushing it, and it vanishes; woe to you for what you ascribe to Allah.

19

wa lahū man fis-samāwāti wal-arḍ(i), wa man ‘indahū lā yastakbirūna ‘an ‘ibādatihī wa lā yastaḥsirūn(a).

To Him belong all in heaven and earth; those near Him never disdain His worship, nor tire.

20

yusabbiḥūnal-laila wan-nahāra wa lā yafturūn(a).

They glorify Him night and day without ceasing.

21

amittakhażū ālihatam minal-arḍi hum yunsyirūn(a).

Have they taken gods from earth who can resurrect?

22

lau kāna fīhimā ālihatun illallāhu lafasadatā, fa subḥānallāhi rabbil-‘arsyi ‘ammā yaṣifūn(a).

If there were gods besides Allah in heaven and earth, both would’ve perished; exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they claim.

23

lā yus'alu ‘ammā yaf‘alu wa hum yus'alūn(a).

He is not questioned about His acts, but they will be.

24

amittakhażū min dūnihī ālihah(tan), qul hātū burhānakum, hāżā żikru mam ma‘iya wa żikru man qablī, bal akṡaruhum lā ya‘lamūnal-ḥaqqa fahum mu‘riḍūn(a).

Have they taken gods besides Him? Say, 'Bring your proof; this is a reminder for those with me and before me.' Most know not truth, so they turn away.

25

wa mā arsalnā min qablika mir rasūlin illā nūḥī ilaihi annahū lā ilāha illā ana fa‘budūn(i).

We sent no messenger before you but revealed to him, 'There is no god but Me; worship Me.'

26

wa qāluttakhażar-raḥmānu waladan subḥānah(ū), bal ‘ibādum mukramūn(a).

They say, 'The Most Merciful has a child.' Exalted is He; rather, they are honored servants.

27

lā yasbiqūnahū bil-qauli wa hum bi'amrihī ya‘malūn(a).

They speak not before Him, acting only by His command.

28

He knows what’s before and behind them; they intercede only for those He approves, trembling in awe of Him.

29

wa may yaqul minhum innī ilāhun min dūnihī fa żālika najzīhi jahannam(a), każālika najziẓ-ẓālimīn(a).

Whoever among them says, 'I am a god besides Allah,' We reward with Hell; thus We punish wrongdoers.

30

awalam yaral-lażīna kafarū annas-samāwāti wal-arḍa kānatā ratqan fa fataqnāhumā, wa ja‘alnā minal-mā'i kulla syai'in ḥayy(in), afalā yu'minūn(a).

Do disbelievers not see heaven and earth were one, then We split them? We made all living things from water; will they not believe?

31

wa ja‘alnā fil-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bihim, wa ja‘anā fīhā fijājan subulal la‘allahum yahtadūn(a).

We placed firm mountains on earth to stabilize it, and made wide paths for guidance.

32

wa ja‘alnas-samā'a saqfam maḥfūẓā(n), wa hum ‘an āyātihā mu‘riḍūn(a).

We made the sky a protected canopy, yet they ignore its signs.

33

wa huwal-lażī khalaqal-laila wan-nahāra wasy-syamsa wal-qamar(a), kullun fī falakiy yasbaḥūn(a).

He created night, day, sun, and moon; each floats in its orbit.

34

wa mā ja‘alnā libasyarim min qablikal-khuld(a), afa'im mitta fahumul-khālidūn(a).

We granted no human before you eternal life; if you die, will they live forever?

35

kullu nafsin żā'iqatul-maut(i), wa nablūkum bisy-syarri wal-khairi fitnah(tan), wa ilainā turja‘ūn(a).

Every soul will taste death; We test you with evil and good as a trial; to Us you return.

36

wa iżā ra'ākal-lażīna kafarū iy yattakhiżūnaka illā huzuwā(n), ahāżal-lażī yażkuru ālihatakum, wa hum biżikrir-raḥmāni hum kāfirūn(a).

When disbelievers see you, they mock, 'Is this who speaks of your gods?' Yet they deny the Most Merciful’s mention.

37

khuliqal-insānu min ‘ajal(in), sa'urīkum āyātī falā tasta‘jilūn(i).

Man is created hasty; I’ll show My signs, so don’t hasten Me.

38

wa yaqūlūna matā hāżal-wa‘du in kuntum ṣādiqīn(a).

They say, 'When will this promise come, if you’re truthful?'

39

lau ya‘lamul-lażīna kafarū ḥīna lā yakuffūna ‘aw wujūhihimun nāra wa lā ‘an ẓuhūrihim wa lā hum yunṣarūn(a).

If disbelievers knew when they can’t shield their faces or backs from fire, nor be helped, they’d not hasten it.

40

bal ta'tīhim bagtatan fa tabhatuhum falā yastaṭī‘ūna raddahā wa lā hum yunẓarūn(a).

The Hour will come suddenly, stunning them; they can’t avert it or delay.

41

wa laqadistuhzi'a birusulim min qablika fa ḥāqa bil-lażīna sakhirū minhum mā kānū bihī yastahzi'ūn(a).

Messengers before you were mocked; those who scoffed were engulfed by what they ridiculed.

42

qul may yakla'ukum bil-laili wan-nahāri minar-raḥmān(i), bal hum ‘an żikrihim mu‘riḍūn(a).

Say, 'Who guards you night and day from the Most Merciful?' Yet they turn from their Lord’s remembrance.

43

am lahum ālihatun tamna‘uhum min dūninā, lā yastaṭī‘ūna naṣra anfusihim wa lā hum minnā yuṣḥabūn(a).

Have they gods to protect them from Us? They can’t help themselves, nor be shielded from Us.

44

bal matta‘nā hā'ulā'i wa ābā'ahum ḥattā ṭāla ‘alaihimul-‘umur(u), afalā yarauna annā na'til-arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā, afahumul-gālibūn(a).

We gave them and their ancestors enjoyment until their lives grew long; see We reduce their lands’ edges? Are they the victors?

45

qul innamā unżirukum bil-waḥy(i), wa lā yasma‘uṣ-ṣummud-du‘ā'a iżā mā yunżarūn(a).

Say, 'I warn you only by revelation.' But the deaf hear not the call when warned.

46

wa la'im massathum nafḥatum min ‘ażābi rabbika layaqūlunna yā wailanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn(a).

If a whiff of your Lord’s punishment touches them, they cry, 'Woe to us, we were wrongdoers.'

47

wa naḍa‘ul-mawāzīnal-qisṭa liyaumil-qiyāmati falā tuẓlamu nafsun syai'ā(n), wa in kāna miṡqāla ḥabbatim min khardalin atainā bihā, wa kafā binā ḥāsibīn(a).

We set just scales for Judgment Day; no soul is wronged; even a mustard seed’s weight, We account; We suffice as Reckoner.

48

wa laqad ātainā mūsā wa hārūnal-furqāna wa ḍiyā'aw wa żikral lil-muttaqīn(a).

We gave Musa and Harun the criterion, a light, and reminder for the righteous,

49

allażīna yakhsyauna rabbahum bil-gaibi wa hum minas-sā‘ati musyfiqūn(a).

who fear their Lord unseen, dreading the Hour.

50

wa hāżā żikrum mubārakun anzalnāh(u), afa antum lahū munkirūn(a).

This is a blessed reminder We sent down; will you deny it?

51

wa laqad ātainā ibrāhīma rusydahū min qablu wa kunnā bihī ‘ālimīn(a).

We gave Ibrahim his guidance before; We knew him well.

52

iż qāla li'abīhi wa qaumihī mā hāżihit-tamāṡīlul-latī antum lahā ‘ākifūn(a).

He said to his father and people, 'What are these idols you worship?'

53

qālū wajadnā ābā'anā lahā ‘ābidīn(a).

They said, 'We found our fathers worshipping them.'

54

qāla laqad kuntum antum wa ābā'ukum fī ḍalālim mubīn(in).

He said, 'You and your fathers are in clear error.'

55

qālū aji'tanā bil-ḥaqqi am anta minal-lā‘ibīn(a).

They said, 'Do you bring truth, or are you jesting?'

56

qāla bar rabbukum rabbus-samāwāti wal-arḍil-lażī faṭarahunn(a), wa ana ‘alā żālikum minasy-syāhidīn(a).

He said, 'Your Lord is the Lord of heaven and earth, who created them; I bear witness to this.'

57

wa tallāhi la'akīdanna aṣnāmakum ba‘da an tuwallū mudbirīn(a).
