13

wa ‘alāmāt(in), wa bin-najmi hum yahtadūn(a).

And landmarks—by the stars, they are guided.

17

afamay yakhluqu kamal lā yakhluq(u), afalā tażakkarūn(a).

Is the One who creates like one who does not create? Will you not take heed?

18

wa in ta‘uddū ni‘matallāhi lā tuḥṣūhā, innallāha lagafūrur raḥīm(un).

If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

19

wallāhu ya‘lamu mā tusirrūna wa mā tu‘linūn(a).

Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal.

20

wal-lażīna yad‘ūna min dūnillāhi lā yakhluqūna syai'aw wa hum yukhlaqūn(a).

Those they invoke besides Allah create nothing; they are themselves created.

21

amwātun gairu aḥyā'(in), wa mā yasy‘urūna ayyāna yub‘aṡūn(a).

They are dead, not alive, and they do not know when they will be resurrected.

22

ilāhukum ilāhuw wāḥid(un), fal-lażīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati qulūbuhum munkiratuw wa hum mustakbirūn(a).

Your God is One God. Those who do not believe in the Hereafter have hearts that deny, and they are arrogant.

23

lā jarama annallāha ya‘lamu mā yusirrūna wa mā yu‘linūn(a), innahū lā yuḥibbul-mustakbirīn(a).

Undoubtedly, Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Indeed, He does not love the arrogant.

24

wa iżā qīla lahum māżā anzala rabbukum, qālū asāṭīrul-awwalīn(a).

When it is said to them, 'What has your Lord revealed?' they say, 'Tales of the ancients.'

25

liyaḥmilū auzārahum kāmilatay yaumal-qiyāmah(ti), wa min auzāril-lażīna yuḍillūnahum bigairi ‘ilm(in), alā sā'a mā yazirūn(a).

On the Day of Resurrection, they will bear their own burdens fully and some of the burdens of those they misled without knowledge. How evil is what they bear!

26

qad makaral-lażīna min qablihim fa atallāhu bun-yānahum minal-qawā‘idi fa kharra ‘alaihimus-saqfu min fauqihim wa atāhumul-‘ażābu min ḥaiṡu lā yasy‘urūn(a).

Those before them plotted, but Allah struck their buildings from the foundations, and the roof fell upon them from above. The punishment came from where they did not perceive.

27

Ṡumma yaumal-qiyāmati yukhzīhim wa yaqūlu aina syurakā'iyal-lażīna kuntum tusyāqqūna fīhim, qālal-lażīna ūtul-‘ilma innal-khizyal-yauma was-sū'a ‘alal-kāfirīn(a).

Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them and say, 'Where are My partners for whom you opposed the truth?' Those given knowledge will say, 'Today, disgrace and punishment are upon the disbelievers.'

28

allażīna tatawaffāhumul-malā'ikatu ẓālimī anfusihim, fa alqawus-salama mā kunnā na‘malu min sū'(in), balā innallāha ‘alīmum bimā kuntum ta‘malūn(a).

Those whose souls are taken by the angels while wronging themselves will offer submission, saying, 'We did no evil.' But the angels will say, 'Yes, you did! Allah knows what you did.'

29

fadkhulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā, fa labi'sa maṡwal-mutakabbirīn(a).

So enter the gates of Hell, to abide therein forever. How wretched is the abode of the arrogant!

30

wa qīla lil-lażīnattaqau māżā anzala rabbukum, qālū khairā(n), lil-lażīna aḥsanū fī hāżihid-dun-yā ḥasanah(tun), wa ladārul-ākhirati khair(un), wa lani‘ma dārul-muttaqīn(a).

When the righteous are asked, 'What has your Lord revealed?' they say, 'Goodness.' For those who do good in this world is a good reward, and the home of the Hereafter is better. How excellent is the abode of the righteous!

31

jannātu ‘adniy yadkhulūnahā tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru lahum fīhā mā yasyā'ūn(a), każālika yajzillāhul-muttaqīn(a).

Gardens of Eden they will enter, beneath which rivers flow. They will have therein all they desire. Thus does Allah reward the righteous.

32

allażīna tatawafāhumul-malā'ikatu ṭayyibīn(a), yaqūlūna salāmun ‘alaikumudkhulul-jannata bimā kuntum ta‘malūn(a).

Those whose souls are taken by the angels in a state of purity are told, 'Peace be upon you. Enter Paradise for what you did.'

33

hal yanẓurūna illā an ta'tiyahumul-malā'ikatu au ya'tiya amru rabbik(a), każālika fa‘alal-lażīna min qablihim, wa mā ẓalamahumullāhu wa lākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn(a).

Do they await anything but the angels to come or your Lord’s command? So did those before them. Allah did not wrong them; they wronged themselves.

34

fa aṣābahum sayyi'ātu mā ‘amilū wa ḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihī yastahzi'ūn(a).

The evil of their deeds struck them, and they were engulfed by what they used to mock.

35

wa qālal-lażīna asyrakū lau syā'allāhu mā ‘abadnā min dūnihī min syai'in naḥnu wa lā ābā'unā wa lā ḥarramnā min dūnihī min syai'(in), każālika fa‘alal-lażīna min qablihim, fahal ‘alar-rusuli illal-balāgul-mubīn(u).

The polytheists say, 'Had Allah willed, we would not have worshiped anything besides Him, neither we nor our forefathers, nor would we have forbidden anything without His command.' So did those before them. Are the messengers tasked with anything but clear conveyance?

36

wa laqad ba‘aṡnā fī kulli ummatir rasūlan ani‘budullāha wajtanibuṭ-ṭāgūt(a), fa minhum man hadallāhu wa minhum man ḥaqqat ‘alaihiḍ-ḍalālah(tu), fa sīrū fil-arḍi fanẓurū kaifa kāna ‘āqibatul-mukażżibīn(a).

Indeed, We sent a messenger to every nation, saying, 'Worship Allah and avoid false gods.' Some were guided by Allah, while others were destined for misguidance. So travel the earth and see the fate of those who denied.

37

in taḥriṣ ‘alā hudāhum fa innallāha lā yahdī may yuḍillu wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn(a).

Even if you (Muhammad) are eager for their guidance, Allah does not guide those He leads astray, and they will have no helpers.

38

wa aqsamū billāhi jahda aimānihim, lā yab‘aṡullāhu may yamūt(u), balā wa‘dan ‘alaihi ḥaqqaw wa lākinna akṡaran-nāsi lā ya‘lamūn(a).

They swear by Allah solemnly, 'Allah will not resurrect the dead.' But it is a true promise from Him, though most people do not know.

39

liyubayyina lahumul-lażī yakhtalifūna fīhi wa liya‘lamal-lażīna kafarū annahum kānū-kāżibīn(a).

So He may clarify to them what they disputed and so the disbelievers know they were liars.

40

innamā qaulunā lisyai'in iżā aradnāhu an naqūla lahū kun fa yakūn(u).

When We intend something, We only say to it, 'Be,' and it is.

41

wal-lażīna hājarū fillāhi mim ba‘di mā ẓulimū lanubawwi'annahum fid-dun-yā ḥasanah(tan), wa la'ajrul-ākhirati akbar(u), lau kānū ya‘lamūn(a).

Those who migrated for Allah’s cause after being oppressed, We will surely grant them a good place in this world, but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.

42

allażīna ṣabarū wa ‘alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn(a).

Those who are patient and rely upon their Lord.

43

wa mā arsalnā min qablika illā rijālan nūḥī ilaihim fas'alū ahlaż-żikri in kuntum lā ta‘lamūn(a).

We sent before you (Muhammad) only men to whom We gave revelation. Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.

44

bil-bayyināti waz-zubur(i), wa anzalnā ilaikaż-żikra litubayyina lin-nāsi mā nuzzila ilaihim wa la‘allahum yatafakkarūn(a).

We sent them with clear proofs and scriptures. And We revealed to you the Reminder (Qur’an) so you may explain to mankind what was revealed to them, that they may reflect.

45

afa aminal-lażīna makarus-sayyi'āti ay yakhsifallāhu bihimul-arḍa au ya'tiyahumul-‘ażābu min ḥaiṡu lā yasy‘urūn(a).

Do those who plot evil feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them, or that punishment will not come from where they do not perceive?

au ya'khużahum fī taqallubihim famā hum bimu‘jizīn(a).

Or that He will not seize them during their travels, leaving them unable to escape?

au ya'khużahum ‘alā takhawwuf(in), fa inna rabbakum lara'ūfur raḥīm(un).

Or that He will not seize them gradually? Indeed, your Lord is Kind, Merciful.

48

awalam yarau ilā mā khalaqallāhu min syai'iy yatafayya'u ẓilāluhū ‘anil-yamīni wasy-syamā'ili sujjadal lillāhi wa hum dākhirūn(a).

Do they not see what Allah has created? Their shadows turn to the right and left, prostrating to Allah in humility.

49

wa lillāhi yasjudu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍi min dābbatiw wal-malā'ikatu wa hum yastakbirūn(a).

To Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and earth, every creature and the angels, and they are not arrogant.

50

yakhāfūna rabbahum min fauqihim wa yaf‘alūna mā yu'marūn(a).

They fear their Lord above them and do what they are commanded.

51

wa qālallāhu lā tattakhiżū ilāhainiṡnain(i), innamā huwa ilāhuw wāḥidun fa iyyāya farhabūn(i).

Allah says, 'Do not take two gods; there is only One God. So fear Me alone.'

52

wa lahū mā fis-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa lahud-dīnu wāṣibā(n), afagairallāhi tattaqūn(a).

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and earth, and to Him is due eternal devotion. Will you fear other than Allah?

53

wa mā bikum min ni‘matin fa minallāhi ṡumma iżā massakumuḍ-ḍurru fa ilaihi taj'arūn(a).

Whatever blessings you have are from Allah. When hardship touches you, to Him you cry for help.

54

Ṡumma iżā kasyafaḍ-ḍurra ‘ankum iżā farīqum minkum birabbihim yusyrikūn(a).

But when He removes your hardship, some of you associate others with your Lord.

55

liyakfurū bimā ātaināhum, fa tamatta‘ū fa saufa ta‘lamūn(a).

Let them deny the favors We gave them. Enjoy yourselves, for you will soon know.

56

wa yaj‘alūna limā lā ya‘lamūna naṣībam mimmā razaqnāhum, tallāhi latus'alunna ‘ammā kuntum taftarūn(a).

They assign a share of what We provided them to idols they know nothing about. By Allah, you will be questioned about what you fabricated.

57

wa yaj‘alūna lillāhil-banāti subḥānah(ū), wa lahum mā yasytahūn(a).

They attribute daughters to Allah—glory be to Him—while they choose for themselves what they desire.

58

When one of them is given news of a female child, his face darkens, and he is filled with rage.

59

yatawārā minal-qaumi min sū'i mā busysyira bih(ī), ayumsikuhū ‘alā hūnin am yadussuhū fit-turāb(i), alā sā'a mā yaḥkumūn(a).

He hides from people due to the bad news. Should he keep her in humiliation or bury her alive? How evil is their judgment!

60

Those who do not believe in the Hereafter have evil attributes, while Allah has the highest attributes. He is the Mighty, the Wise.

61

If Allah were to punish people for their wrongdoing, He would not leave a single creature on earth, but He delays them until an appointed time. When their time comes, they cannot delay or advance it by a moment.

62

They attribute to Allah what they hate for themselves, and their tongues utter the lie that the best is for them. Undoubtedly, the Fire awaits them, and they will be hastened into it.

63

By Allah, We sent messengers to nations before you (Muhammad), but Satan made their deeds seem pleasing to them. He is their ally today, and they will have a painful punishment.

64

Your Lord inspired the bee, saying, 'Make hives in mountains, trees, and structures made by humans.'

69

allażīna kafarū wa ṣaddū ‘an sabīlillāhi zidnāhum ‘ażāban fauqal-‘ażābi bimā kānū yufsidūn(a).

Those who disbelieve and bar others from Allah’s path, We will add punishment upon punishment for their corruption.

89

wa yauma nab‘aṡu fī kulli ummatin syahīdan ‘alaihim min anfusihim wa ji'nā bika syahīdan ‘alā hā'ulā'(i), wa nazzalnā ‘alaikal-kitāba tibyānal likulli syai'iw wa hudaw wa raḥmataw wa busyrā lil-muslimīn(a).

On the Day when We raise a witness from every nation among themselves, and bring you (Muhammad) as a witness against them, We revealed the Book (Qur’an) to you as an explanation of all things, guidance, mercy, and glad tidings for those who submit.

90

innallāha ya'muru bil-‘adli wal-iḥsāni wa ītā'i żil-qurbā wa yanhā ‘anil-faḥsyā'i wal-munkari wal-bagyi ya‘iẓukum la‘allakum tażakkarūn(a).

Allah commands justice, kindness, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, evil, and oppression. He admonishes you that you may take heed.

91

Fulfill your covenant with Allah when you pledge, and do not break oaths after swearing them, having made Allah your witness. Indeed, Allah knows what you do.

92

wa lā takūnū kal-latī naqaḍat gazlahā mim ba‘di quwwatin ankāṡā(n), tattakhiżūna aimānakum dakhalam bainakum an takūna ummatun hiya arbā min ummah(tin), innamā yablūkumullāhu bih(ī), wa layubayyinanna lakum yaumal-qiyāmati mā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn(a).

Do not be like a woman who unravels her strong thread into pieces. Do not use your oaths as a means of deceit among you because one group is stronger than another. Allah tests you with this, and on the Day of Resurrection, He will clarify what you disputed.

93

wa lau syā'allāhu laja‘alakum ummataw wāḥidataw wa lākiy yuḍillu may yasyā'u wa yahdī may yasyā'(u), wa latus'alunna ‘ammā kuntum ta‘malūn(a).

Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation, but He leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. You will be questioned about what you did.

94

wa lā tattakhiżū aimānakum dakhalam bainakum fa tazilla qadamum ba‘da ṡubūtihā wa tażūqus-sū'a bimā ṣadattum ‘an sabīlillāh(i), wa lakum ‘ażābun ‘aẓīm(un).

Do not use your oaths as a means of deceit among you, lest your foot slip after being firm, and you taste evil for barring others from Allah’s path, and face a great punishment.

95

wa lā tasytarū bi‘ahdillāhi ṡamanan qalīlā(n), innamā ‘indallāhi huwa khairul lakum in kuntum ta‘lamūn(a).

Do not sell Allah’s covenant for a small price. What is with Allah is better for you, if you only knew.

96

mā ‘indakum yanfadu wa mā ‘indallāhi bāq(in), wa lanajziyannal-lażīna ṣabarū ajrahum bi'aḥsani mā kānū ya‘malūn(a).

What you have will perish, but what is with Allah is eternal. We will reward the patient with a reward better than what they did.

97

man ‘amila ṣāliḥam min żakarin au unṡā wa huwa mu'minun fa lanuḥyiyannahū ḥayātan ṭayyibah(tan), wa lanajziyannahum ajrahum bi'aḥsani mā kānū ya‘malūn(a).

Whoever does righteous deeds, male or female, while believing, We will grant them a good life and reward them with something better than what they did.

98

fa iżā qara'tal-qur'āna fasta‘iż billāhi minasy-syaiṭānir-rajīm(i).

When you (Muhammad) recite the Qur’an, seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.

99

innahū laisa lahū sulṭānun ‘alal-lażīna āmanū wa ‘alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn(a).

He has no power over those who believe and rely upon their Lord.

100

innamā sulṭānuhū ‘alal-lażīna yatawallaunahū wal-lażīna hum bihī musyrikūn(a).

His power is only over those who take him as an ally and associate partners with Allah.

101

wa iżā baddalnā āyatam makāna āyah(tin), wallāhu a‘lamu bimā yunazzilu qālū innamā anta muftar(in), bal akṡaruhum lā ya‘lamūn(a).

When We replace one verse with another—and Allah knows best what He reveals—they say, 'You (Muhammad) are merely a fabricator.' But most of them do not know.

102

qul nazzalahū rūḥul-qudusi mir rabbika bil-ḥaqqi liyuṡabbital-lażīna āmanū wa hudaw wa busyrā lil-muslimīn(a).

Say, 'The Holy Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down from your Lord in truth, to strengthen the believers and as guidance and glad tidings for those who submit.'

103

wa laqad na‘lamu annahum yaqūlūna innamā yu‘allimuhū basyar(un), lisānul-lażī yulḥidūna ilaihi a‘jamiyyuw wa hāżā lisānun ‘arabiyyum mubīn(un).

We know they say, 'A human teaches him.' The language of the one they refer to is foreign, while this (Qur’an) is in clear Arabic.

104

innal-lażīna lā yu'minūna bi'āyātillāh(i), lā yahdīhimullāhu wa lahum ‘ażābun alīm(un).

Those who do not believe in Allah’s verses, Allah will not guide them, and they will have a painful punishment.

105

innamā yaftaril-każibal-lażīna lā yu'minūna bi'āyātillāh(i), ulā'ika humul-kāżibūn(a).

Only those who do not believe in Allah’s verses fabricate lies, and they are the liars.

106

man kafara billāhi mim ba‘di īmānihī illā man ukriha wa qalbuhū muṭma'innum bil-īmāni wa lākim man syaraḥa bil-kufri ṣadran fa ‘alaihim gaḍabum minallāh(i), wa lahum ‘ażābun aẓīm(un).

Whoever disbelieves in Allah after believing—except one who is forced while his heart remains steadfast in faith—but whoever opens their heart to disbelief, upon them is Allah’s wrath, and they will have a great punishment.

107

Żālika bi'annahumustaḥabbul-ḥayātad-dun-yā ‘alal-ākhirah(ti), wa annallāha lā yahdil-qaumal-kāfirīn(a).

That is because they preferred the life of this world over the Hereafter, and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

108

ulā'ikal-lażīna ṭaba‘allāhu ‘alā qulūbihim wa sam‘ihim wa abṣārihim, wa ulā'ika humul-gāfilūn(a).

Those are the ones whose hearts, hearing, and sight Allah has sealed. They are the heedless.

109

lā jarama annahum fil-ākhirati humul-khāsirūn(a).

Undoubtedly, they will be the losers in the Hereafter.

110

Ṡumma inna rabbaka lil-lażīna hājarū mim ba‘di mā futinū ṡumma jāhadū wa ṣabarū, inna rabbaka mim ba‘dihā lagafūrur raḥīm(un).

But your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful to those who migrate after trials, strive, and remain patient.

111

yauma ta'tī kullu nafsin tujādilu ‘an nafsihā wa tuwaffā kullu nafsim mā ‘amilat wa hum lā yuẓlamūn(a).

On the Day when every soul comes pleading for itself, and each is fully repaid for what it did, they will not be wronged.

112

wa ḍaraballāhu maṡalan qaryatan kānat āminatam muṭma'innatay ya'tīhā rizquhā ragadam min kulli makānin fa kafarat bi'an‘umillāhi fa ażāqahallāhu libāsal-jū‘i wal-khaufi bimā kānū yaṣna‘ūn(a).

Allah presents the parable of a town, safe and secure, with abundant provision from every direction, but its people denied Allah’s favors. So Allah made them taste hunger and fear for what they did.

113

wa laqad jā'ahum rasūlum minhum fa każżabūhu fa akhażahumul-‘ażābu wa hum ẓālimūn(a).

A messenger from among them came, but they denied him, so punishment struck them while they were wrongdoers.

114

fa kulū mimmā razaqakumullāhu ḥalālan ṭayyibā(n), wasykurū ni‘matallāhi in kuntum iyyāhu ta‘budūn(a).

Eat what is lawful and good from Allah’s provision, and be grateful for His favors if you worship Him alone.

115

innamā ḥarrama ‘alaikumul-maitata wad-dama wa laḥmal-khinzīri wa mā uhilla ligairillāhi bih(ī), famaniḍṭurra gaira bāgiw wa lā ‘ādin fa innallāha gafūrur raḥīm(un).

He has forbidden you only carrion, blood, pork, and what is slaughtered in the name of other than Allah. But whoever is compelled, without desire or transgression, indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

116

wa lā taqūlū limā taṣifu alsinatukumul-każiba hāżā ḥalāluw wa hāżā ḥarāmul litaftarū ‘alallāhil-każib(a), innal-lażīna yaftarūna ‘alallāhil-każiba lā yufliḥūn(a).

Do not say, with lying tongues, 'This is lawful, and this is forbidden,' fabricating lies against Allah. Those who fabricate lies against Allah will not prosper.

117

matā‘un qalīl(un), wa lahum ‘ażābun alīm(un).

It is a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment.

118

wa ‘alal-lażīna hādū ḥarramnā mā qaṣaṣnā ‘alaika min qabl(u), wa mā ẓalamnāhum wa lākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn(a).

To the Jews, We forbade what We related to you before (Muhammad). We did not wrong them; they wronged themselves.

119

Ṡumma inna rabbaka lil-lażīna ‘amilus-sū'a bijahālatin ṡumma tābū mim ba‘di żālika wa aṣlaḥū inna rabbaka mim ba‘dihā lagafūrur raḥīm(un).

Your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful to those who do wrong in ignorance, then repent and reform.

120

inna ibrāhīma kāna ummatan qānital lillāhi ḥanīfā(n), wa lam yaku minal-musyrikīn(a).

Indeed, Abraham was a leader, obedient to Allah, upright, and not of the polytheists.

121

syākiral li'an‘umih(ī), ijtabāhu wa hadāhu ilā ṣirāṭim mustaqīm(in).

He was grateful for His favors. Allah chose him and guided him to a straight path.

122

wa ātaināhu fid-dun-yā ḥasanah(tan), wa innahū fil-ākhirati laminaṣ-ṣāliḥīn(a).

We gave him good in this world, and in the Hereafter, he is among the righteous.

123

Ṡumma auḥainā ilaika anittabi‘ millata ibrāhīma ḥanīfā(n), wa mā kāna minal-musyrikīn(a).

Then We revealed to you (Muhammad), 'Follow the faith of Abraham, the upright, who was not of the polytheists.'

124

innamā ju‘ilas-sabtu ‘alal-lażīnakhtalafū fīh(i), wa inna rabbaka layaḥkumu bainahum yaumal-qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn(a).

The Sabbath was ordained only for those who disputed about it. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection regarding their disputes.

125

ud‘u ilā sabīli rabbika bil-ḥikmati wal-mau‘iẓatil-ḥasanati wa jādilhum bil-latī hiya aḥsan(u), inna rabbaka huwa a‘lamu biman ḍalla ‘an sabīlihī wa huwa a‘lamu bil-muhtadīn(a).

Call to your Lord’s path with wisdom and good preaching, and debate with them in the best way. Your Lord knows best who strays from His path and who is guided.

126

wa in ‘āqabtum fa ‘āqibū bimiṡli mā ‘ūqibtum bih(ī), wa la'in ṣabartum lahuwa khairul liṣ-ṣābirīn(a).

If you punish, punish in proportion to the harm done to you, but if you are patient, it is better for the patient.

127

waṣbir wa mā ṣabruka illā billāhi wa lā taḥzan ‘alaihim wa lā taku fī ḍaiqim mimmā yamkurūn(a).

Be patient (Muhammad), and your patience is only by Allah’s help. Do not grieve over them, nor be distressed by their plots.

128

innallāha ma‘al-lażīnattaqau wal-lażīna hum muḥsinūn(a).

Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and do good.
