وَاِلٰى مَدْيَنَ اَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًاۗ قَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِّنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهٗۗ قَدْ جَاۤءَتْكُمْ بَيِّنَةٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ فَاَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَالْمِيْزَانَ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ اَشْيَاۤءَهُمْ وَلَا تُفْسِدُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ بَعْدَ اِصْلَاحِهَاۗ ذٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَۚ
wa ilā madyana akhāhum syu‘aibā(n), qāla yā qaumi‘budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin gairuh(ū), qad jā'atkum bayyinatum mir rabbikum fa auful-kaila wal-mīzāna wa lā tabkhasun-nāsa asy-yā'ahum wa lā tufsidū fil-arḍi ba‘da iṣlāḥihā, żālikum khairul lakum in kuntum mu'minīn(a).
To the people of Midian, We sent their brother Shu‘ayb. He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah; you have no god but Him. A clear sign has come to you from your Lord. Give full measure and weight, and do not cheat people of their goods. Do not spread corruption on earth after its reform. This is better for you if you are believers.'
وَلَا تَقْعُدُوْا بِكُلِّ صِرَاطٍ تُوْعِدُوْنَ وَتَصُدُّوْنَ عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ مَنْ اٰمَنَ بِهٖ وَتَبْغُوْنَهَا عِوَجًاۚ وَاذْكُرُوْٓا اِذْ كُنْتُمْ قَلِيْلًا فَكَثَّرَكُمْۖ وَانْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُفْسِدِيْنَ
wa lā taq‘udū bikulli ṣirāṭin tū‘idūna wa taṣuddūna ‘an sabīlillāhi man āmana bihī wa tabgūnahā ‘iwajā(n), ważkurū iż kuntum qalīlan fa kaṡṡarakum, wanẓurū kaifa kāna ‘āqibatul-mufsidīn(a).
Do not lie in wait on every path, threatening and obstructing believers from Allah’s path, seeking to make it crooked. Remember when you were few, and He multiplied you. See the end of the corrupters.'
وَاِنْ كَانَ طَاۤىِٕفَةٌ مِّنْكُمْ اٰمَنُوْا بِالَّذِيْٓ اُرْسِلْتُ بِهٖ وَطَاۤىِٕفَةٌ لَّمْ يُؤْمِنُوْا فَاصْبِرُوْا حَتّٰى يَحْكُمَ اللّٰهُ بَيْنَنَاۚ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحٰكِمِيْنَ ۔
wa in kāna ṭā'ifatum minkum āmanū bil-lażī ursiltu bihī wa ṭā'ifatul lam tu'minū faṣbirū ḥattā yaḥkumallāhu bainanā, wa huwa khairul-ḥākimīn(a).
If some of you believe in what I was sent with and others do not, be patient until Allah judges between us. He is the best of judges.'
۞ قَالَ الْمَلَاُ الَّذِيْنَ اسْتَكْبَرُوْا مِنْ قَوْمِهٖ لَنُخْرِجَنَّكَ يٰشُعَيْبُ وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَكَ مِنْ قَرْيَتِنَآ اَوْ لَتَعُوْدُنَّ فِيْ مِلَّتِنَاۗ قَالَ اَوَلَوْ كُنَّا كٰرِهِيْنَ
qālal-mala'ul-lażīnastakbarū min qaumihī lanukhrijannaka yā syu‘aibu wal-lażīna āmanū ma‘aka min qaryatinā au lata‘ūdunna fī millatinā, qāla awalau kunnā kārihīn(a).
The arrogant leaders of his people said, 'O Shu‘ayb! We will expel you and the believers from our town unless you return to our religion.' He said, 'Even if we detest it?'
قَدِ افْتَرَيْنَا عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِبًا اِنْ عُدْنَا فِيْ مِلَّتِكُمْ بَعْدَ اِذْ نَجّٰىنَا اللّٰهُ مِنْهَاۗ وَمَا يَكُوْنُ لَنَآ اَنْ نَّعُوْدَ فِيْهَآ اِلَّآ اَنْ يَّشَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّنَاۗ وَسِعَ رَبُّنَا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًاۗ عَلَى اللّٰهِ تَوَكَّلْنَاۗ رَبَّنَا افْتَحْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ قَوْمِنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْفٰتِحِيْنَ
qadiftarainā ‘alallāhi każiban in ‘udnā fī millatikum ba‘da iż najjānallāhu minhā, wa mā yakūnu lanā an na‘ūda fīhā illā ay yasyā'allāhu rabbunā, wasi‘a rabbunā kulla syai'in ‘ilmā(n), ‘alallāhi tawakkalnā, rabbanaftaḥ bainanā wa baina qauminā bil-ḥaqqi wa anta khairul-fātiḥīn(a).
We would have fabricated a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion after Allah saved us from it. It is not for us to return unless Allah, our Lord, wills. Our Lord’s knowledge encompasses everything. In Allah we trust. Our Lord, judge between us and our people with truth; You are the best of judges.'
وَقَالَ الْمَلَاُ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ قَوْمِهٖ لَىِٕنِ اتَّبَعْتُمْ شُعَيْبًا اِنَّكُمْ اِذًا لَّخٰسِرُوْنَ
wa qālal-mala'ul-lażīna kafarū min qaumihī la'inittaba‘tum syu‘aiban innakum iżal lakhāsirūn(a).
The disbelieving leaders of his people said, 'If you follow Shu‘ayb, you will be losers.'
فَاَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ فَاَصْبَحُوْا فِيْ دَارِهِمْ جٰثِمِيْنَۙ
fa akhażathumur-rajfatu fa aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāṡimīn(a).
So an earthquake seized them, and they lay dead in their homes.
الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا شُعَيْبًا كَاَنْ لَّمْ يَغْنَوْا فِيْهَاۚ اَلَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا شُعَيْبًا كَانُوْا هُمُ الْخٰسِرِيْنَ
al-lażīna każżabū syu‘aiban ka'allam yagnau fīhā, al-lażīna każżabū syu‘aiban kānū humul-khāsirīn(a).
Those who denied Shu‘ayb were as if they never lived there. Those who denied Shu‘ayb were the losers.
فَتَوَلّٰى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يٰقَوْمِ لَقَدْ اَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسٰلٰتِ رَبِّيْ وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْۚ فَكَيْفَ اٰسٰى عَلٰى قَوْمٍ كٰفِرِيْنَ ࣖ
fa tawallā ‘anhum wa qāla yā qaumi laqad ablagtukum risālāti rabbī wa naṣaḥtu lakum, fa kaifa āsā ‘alā qaumin kāfirīn(a).
He turned away from them, saying, 'O my people! I conveyed my Lord’s messages and advised you. How can I grieve for a disbelieving people?'
۞ وَاِلٰى مَدْيَنَ اَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا ۗقَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِّنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهٗ ۗوَلَا تَنْقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيْزَانَ اِنِّيْٓ اَرٰىكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ وَّاِنِّيْٓ اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُّحِيْطٍ
wa ilā madyana akhāhum syu‘aibā(n), qāla yā qaumi‘budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin gairuh(ū), wa lā tanquṣul-mikyāla wal-mīzāna innī arākum bikhairiw wa innī akhāfu ‘alaikum ‘ażāba yaumim muḥīṭ(in).
To Midian, We sent their brother Shu’ayb. He said, 'My people, worship Allah; you have no god but Him. Don’t cheat in measure or weight. I see you prosper; I fear for you the torment of an encompassing Day.'
وَيٰقَوْمِ اَوْفُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيْزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ اَشْيَاۤءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ مُفْسِدِيْنَ
wa yā qaumi auful-mikyāla wal-mīzāna bil-qisṭi wa lā tabkhasun-nāsa asy-yā'ahum wa lā ta‘ṡau fil-arḍi mufsidīn(a).
My people, give full measure and weight justly; don’t deprive people of their rights or spread corruption on earth.
بَقِيَّتُ اللّٰهِ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ ەۚ وَمَآ اَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُمْ بِحَفِيْظٍ
baqiyyatullāhi khairul lakum in kuntum mu'minīn(a), wa mā ana ‘alaikum biḥafīẓ(in).
Allah’s lawful provision is better for you if you believe. I’m not your keeper.
قَالُوْا يٰشُعَيْبُ اَصَلٰوتُكَ تَأْمُرُكَ اَنْ نَّتْرُكَ مَا يَعْبُدُ اٰبَاۤؤُنَآ اَوْ اَنْ نَّفْعَلَ فِيْٓ اَمْوَالِنَا مَا نَشٰۤؤُا ۗاِنَّكَ لَاَنْتَ الْحَلِيْمُ الرَّشِيْدُ
qālū yā syu‘aibu aṣalātuka ta'muruka an natruka mā ya‘budu ābā'unā au an naf‘ala fī amwālinā mā nasyā'(u), innaka la'antal-ḥalīmur-rasyīd(u).
They said, 'Shu’ayb, does your faith bid us abandon our ancestors’ worship or control our wealth as we wish? You’re gentle, wise.'
قَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اَرَءَيْتُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُ عَلٰى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّيْ وَرَزَقَنِيْ مِنْهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًا وَّمَآ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اُخَالِفَكُمْ اِلٰى مَآ اَنْهٰىكُمْ عَنْهُ ۗاِنْ اُرِيْدُ اِلَّا الْاِصْلَاحَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُۗ وَمَا تَوْفِيْقِيْٓ اِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ ۗعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَاِلَيْهِ اُنِيْبُ
qāla yā qaumi ara'aitum in kuntu ‘alā bayyinatim mir rabbī wa razaqanī minhu rizqan ḥasanaw wa mā urīdu an ukhālifakum ila mā anhākum ‘anh(u), in urīdu illal-iṣlāḥa mastaṭa‘t(u), wa mā taufīqī illā billāh(i), ‘alaihi tawakkaltu wa ilaihi unīb(u).
Shu’ayb said, 'My people, if I have clear proof from my Lord and His good provision, should I defy Him? I don’t oppose what I forbid you; I seek reform as I can. My guidance is from Allah; to Him I trust and return.'
وَيٰقَوْمِ لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِيْٓ اَنْ يُّصِيْبَكُمْ مِّثْلُ مَآ اَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوْحٍ اَوْ قَوْمَ هُوْدٍ اَوْ قَوْمَ صٰلِحٍ ۗوَمَا قَوْمُ لُوْطٍ مِّنْكُمْ بِبَعِيْدٍ
wa yā qaumi lā yajrimannakum syiqāqī ay yuṣībakum miṡlu mā aṣāba qauma nūḥin au qauma hūdin au qauma ṣāliḥ(in), wa mā qaumu lūṭim minkum biba‘īd(in).
My people, let not our dispute lead you to sin, lest you suffer like Noah’s, Hud’s, or Saleh’s people. Lot’s people are not far from you.
وَاسْتَغْفِرُوْا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوْبُوْٓا اِلَيْهِ ۗاِنَّ رَبِّيْ رَحِيْمٌ وَّدُوْدٌ
wastagfirū rabbakum ṡumma tūbū ilaih(i), inna rabbī raḥīmuw wadūd(un).
Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, repent to Him; my Lord is Merciful, Loving.
قَالُوْا يٰشُعَيْبُ مَا نَفْقَهُ كَثِيْرًا مِّمَّا تَقُوْلُ وَاِنَّا لَنَرٰىكَ فِيْنَا ضَعِيْفًا ۗوَلَوْلَا رَهْطُكَ لَرَجَمْنٰكَ ۖوَمَآ اَنْتَ عَلَيْنَا بِعَزِيْزٍ
qālū yā syu‘aibu mā nafqahu kaṡīram mimmā taqūlu wa innā lanarāka fīnā ḍa‘īfā(n), wa lau lā rahṭuka larajamnāk(a), wa anta ‘alainā bi‘azīz(in).
They said, 'Shu’ayb, we grasp little of your words; we see you weak among us. Without your clan, we’d stone you; you hold no sway.'
قَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اَرَهْطِيْٓ اَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ ۗوَاتَّخَذْتُمُوْهُ وَرَاۤءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا ۗاِنَّ رَبِّيْ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ مُحِيْطٌ
qāla yā qaumi arahṭī a‘azzu ‘alaikum minallāh(i), wattakhażtumūhu warā'akum ẓihriyyā(n), inna rabbī bimā ta‘malūna muḥīṭ(un).
Shu’ayb said, 'My people, is my clan dearer to you than Allah, whom you cast behind? My Lord encompasses your deeds.'
وَيٰقَوْمِ اعْمَلُوْا عَلٰى مَكَانَتِكُمْ اِنِّيْ عَامِلٌ ۗسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَۙ مَنْ يَّأْتِيْهِ عَذَابٌ يُّخْزِيْهِ وَمَنْ هُوَ كَاذِبٌۗ وَارْتَقِبُوْٓا اِنِّيْ مَعَكُمْ رَقِيْبٌ
wa yā qaumi‘malū ‘alā makānatikum innī ‘āmil(un), saufa ta‘lamūn(a), may ya'tīhi ‘ażābuy yukhzīhi wa man huwa kāżib(un), wartaqibū innī ma‘akum raqīb(un).
My people, act as you will; I’ll act too. You’ll know who faces humiliating torment and who lies. Watch; I watch with you.
وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ اَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا شُعَيْبًا وَّالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَهٗ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّاۚ وَاَخَذَتِ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوا الصَّيْحَةُ فَاَصْبَحُوْا فِيْ دِيَارِهِمْ جٰثِمِيْنَۙ
wa lammā jā'a amrunā najjainā syu‘aibaw wal-lażīna amanū ma‘ahū biraḥmatim minnā, wa akhażatil-lażīna ẓalamuṣ-ṣaiḥatu fa aṣbaḥū fī diyārihim jāṡimīn(a).
When Our decree came, We saved Shu’ayb and believers with him by Our mercy. A blast seized the unjust, leaving them lifeless in their homes.
كَاَنْ لَّمْ يَغْنَوْا فِيْهَا ۗ اَلَا بُعْدًا لِّمَدْيَنَ كَمَا بَعِدَتْ ثَمُوْدُ ࣖ
ka allam yagnau fīhā, alā bu‘dal limadyana kamā ba‘idat ṡamūd(u).
As if they never dwelt there. Away with Midian, as Thamud perished.
كَذَّبَ اَصْحٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ ۖ
każżaba aṣḥābul-aikatil-mursalīn(a).
The people of Aikah denied the messengers
اِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ اَلَا تَتَّقُوْنَ ۚ
iż qāla lahum syu‘aibun alā tattaqūn(a).
When Shu’aib said to them Why do you not fear
اِنِّيْ لَكُمْ رَسُوْلٌ اَمِيْنٌ ۙ
innī lakum rasūlun amīn(un).
I am a trustworthy messenger to you
فَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَاَطِيْعُوْنِ ۚ
fattaqullāha wa aṭī‘ūn(i).
Fear Allah and obey me
وَمَآ اَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ اَجْرٍ اِنْ اَجْرِيَ اِلَّا عَلٰى رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ ۗ
wa mā as'alukum ‘alaihi min ajrin in ajriya illā ‘alā rabbil-‘ālamīn(a).
I ask no reward my reward is from the Lord of all worlds
۞ اَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُوْنُوْا مِنَ الْمُخْسِرِيْنَ ۚ
auful-kaila wa lā takūnū minal-mukhsirīn(a).
Give full measure do not cheat
وَزِنُوْا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَقِيْمِ ۚ
wazinū bil-qisṭāsil-mustaqīm(i).
Weigh with a true balance
وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ اَشْيَاۤءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ مُفْسِدِيْنَ ۚ
wa lā tabkhasun-nāsa asy-yā'ahum wa lā ta‘ṡau fil-arḍi mufsidīn(a).
Do not wrong people by reducing their rights or cause corruption
وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكُمْ وَالْجِبِلَّةَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ۗ
wattaqul-lażī khalaqakum wal-jibillatal-awwalīn(a).
Fear Him who created you and earlier generations
قَالُوْٓا اِنَّمَآ اَنْتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِيْنَ ۙ
qālū innamā anta minal-musaḥḥarīn(a).
They said You are bewitched
وَمَآ اَنْتَ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَاِنْ نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ الْكٰذِبِيْنَ ۚ
wa mā anta illā basyarum miṡlunā wa in naẓunnuka laminal-kāżibīn(a).
You are only a man like us we think you lie
فَاَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا مِّنَ السَّمَاۤءِ اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ ۗ
fa asqiṭ ‘alainā kisafam minas-samā'i in kunta minaṣ-ṣādiqīn(a).
Make fragments fall from the sky if you are truthful
قَالَ رَبِّيْٓ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ
qāla rabbī a‘lamu bimā ta‘malūn(a).
He said My Lord knows best what you do
فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَاَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ الظُّلَّةِ ۗاِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيْمٍ
fa każżabūhu fa akhażahum ‘ażābu yaumiẓ-ẓullah(ti), innahū kāna ‘ażāba yaumin ‘aẓīm(in).
They denied him punishment seized them on a dark day it was a great punishment
اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً ۗوَمَا كَانَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ
inna fī żālika la'āyah(tan), wa mā kāna akṡaruhum mu'minīn(a).
Surely in this is a sign but most do not believe
وَاِلٰى مَدْيَنَ اَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًاۙ فَقَالَ يٰقَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ وَارْجُوا الْيَوْمَ الْاٰخِرَ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ مُفْسِدِيْنَ ۖ
wa ilā madyana akhāhum syu‘aibā(n), faqāla yā qaumi‘budullāha warjul-yaumal-ākhira wa lā ta‘ṡau fil-arḍi mufsidīn(a).
To Midian We sent their brother Shu’ayb saying Worship Allah fear the Last Day do not spread corruption
فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَاَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ فَاَصْبَحُوْا فِيْ دَارِهِمْ جٰثِمِيْنَ ۙ
fa każżabūhu fa'akhażathumur-rajfatu fa'aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāṡimīn(a).
They denied him an earthquake seized them they lay fallen in their homes
